College for Music and Art Montepulciano
At the beginning of 2010, the four music universities of North Rhine-Westphalia (Cologne, Detmold, Düsseldorf and Essen) signed an "agreement to establish a College of Music and Art Montepulciano".
The three art schools in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Cologne, Düsseldorf and Münster) are to sign the agreement soon.
The program is funded by the Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The College pursues the objectives,
- to intensify the cooperation between the art and music universities of North Rhine- Westphalia
- to offer for each of the selected topics an in-depth artistic and academic discussion across the various university and art forms, using the competences of all participating universities
- to therewith offer the students special courses, expanding the traditional curriculum course content and study areas, in the electoral area of the bachelor's and master's programs
- to promote international cooperation in the field of artistic training and at the same time
- to promote the international visibility of the artistic work of the North Rhine-Westphalia universities for art and music.
The College has the tasks,
- to annually present a subject, jointly selected by the universities, artistically and academically in such that it opens up new and enhanced approaches to art and music for the students in the concentrated phases of work in the Palazzo Ricci
- to develop, in addition to the annual theme, a major musical-artistic project in intervals of several years with the participation of all cooperating universities
- to reflect the International Week of European Music Academies successively at each university location in NRW
- to organize and to support the use of the Palazzo Ricci for projects of the participating universities
- to commit to a collaboration with Italian art, music and cultural institutions as well as with North Rhine-Westphalia's cultural institutions.
In the first joint project in September 2010 a Chamber Orchestra, composed of the best students of the four-NRW conservatoires, will rehearsal and perform a concert in Montepulciano.
The concert will be repeated in October in Essen, the European Capital of Culture 2010
